2004 - "Making Sex Work Safe" Hyderabad, India

A five day workshop hosted by APSNW and International Aids Alliance India was held between 26 September and 1st October 2004. Participants at the workshop were outreach workers and peer educators working with multiple key populations, including male, female and hijra sex workers, MSM, PLHIV and PWID.The event was an opportunity to develop and apply the methodology to additional key populations beyond sex workers. Mixed groups worked together to produce materials on issues that affect all the key population groups such as stigma, discrimination and violence). Population-based small groups worked on resources specific to their area.The participants felt the process worked well and the mix of experience, issues and genders strengthened the process and outcomes.On the fifth day the materials were displayed, screened and performed before an invited audience from NGOs, INGOs, USAID, and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.The workshop was facilitated by Raju Ahmed (TREE, Bangladesh), Meena Seshu (VAMP, India), Andrew Hunter (APNSW) and Meera & Brahman (WINS, India).
